Since 2025, Czech citizens living abroad will be able to vote in Czech elections. The key prerequisite is to get registered in a special register of voters - please note this will result in removal from the voter register in the Czech Republic.
Our honorary consulate in Seattle would like to provide you some information on the topic. In a nutshell, we recommend reviewing one or both of the following options:
- Website volimdomu.cz (endorsed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic).
- Website of the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Los Angeles - Washington state residents fall under this consulate's jurisdiction, and may apply for registration in the Special Register of Voters (SRV) by following the procedure outlined here.
For convenience, here is a summary of the registration options - applications can be submitted:
- Through the Citizen Portal (Portál občana), using an electronic identification method issued within a qualified system of electronic identification with at least a substantial level of assurance.
- Via data box ("datová schránka"). Applications (either a completed form or a freeform request with required details) can be sent to the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ data box, that will share the documents to the Consulate General of Los Angeles. This method does not require an officially verified signature, but the application must include the applicant's contact information (phone number or email address).
- By mail to the address of the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Los Angeles, 10990 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 1100, Los Angeles, CA 90024. The application must include an officially verified signature by a relevant Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic (upon presentation of valid ID) or another authorized local authority, as well as the applicant’s contact information (phone number or email address).
- Personally at the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Los Angeles during office hours. The application must be accompanied by valid identification (ID card, passport, or a certificate of Czech citizenship issued within the last year); in exceptional cases, for the purposes of SRV registration, identity can be proven using a valid foreign government-issued document with a photograph and basic personal details that allow verification of identity and Czech citizenship in the resident registry.
- Through an authorized representative who may submit the application in person during office hours at the Consulate General, provided they present a power of attorney with a verified signature of the voter.
If none of the above options suit your situation, please contact us to set up an appointment to get registered via the honorary consulate in Seattle/Issaquah - please see option 4 for the relevant documentation you'll need.
